We’re looking at another Chromebook from Toshiba today. It’s the Chromebook 2, not to be confused with the Samsung Chromebook 2. The model number on this one is CB35-B3340.
This Chromebook is very interesting because it comes with a 1920 x 1080 Full HD IPS display in 13 inches.
For those who don’t know, an IPS display means that you get a better quality display compared to some of the other Chromebooks out there, and noticeably so. And you also have a much better viewing angle on the display as well. IPS panels are usually found in high end expensive notebook computers, so to have it in this inexpensive Toshiba Chromebook makes it very worthy of its price tag.
The display is very sharp, the colors are very crisp and if you put this next to any other Chromebook you will definitely notice the difference.
The only drawback to the high resolution 13.3 inch screen is that you might notice icons and text to be very tiny. However, this may only be a concern if you are someone with eye sight issues and can be remedied with scaling settings.
This Toshiba Chromebook 2 has a Bay Trail Intel processer clocked at 2.16GHz. What that means is that it’s fast but perhaps not as performance orientated as other Chromebook CPU’s. The upside of this of course is that battery life is vastly improved. The average battery life for this Chromebook is 9 hours. So it’s perfect for students who are in classes all day or travellers.
And in our testing we found it to be fast. Pages load quickly and we did not notice any particular performance issues. So it works well and we don’t think performance is an issue at all.
It’s got 4GB RAM on board which is perfect for this Chromebook.
Looks and hardware wise it’s a fairly standard set up. It has a full size keyboard which feels very comfortable to type on. It’s got a very Apple like appearance with the recessed
keys and backlighting. It has a really nice trackpad that’s very accurate and responsive and feels more expensive than the computer is.
And the whole casing on this Toshiba Chromebook 2 is textured so it’s very easy to hold in your hand and not slip out. It looks and feels like a good quality notebook.
It’s about 3 pounds so a little bit heavier than other notebooks of this kind out there. This is due to the battery which gives you that full day of usage. However, 3 pounds is still pretty lightweight and you’ll have to trouble carting this one around.
Port wise this Toshiba Chromebook 2 has a headphone jack, microphone jack, 1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0, HDMI output, SD Card slot as well as a Kensington lock so you can secure it to a desk.
It is also equipped with a built in webcam, SkullCandy sound, which is amazing, dual antenna 802.11 A/C Wi-Fi and Bluetooth v4.0.
All in all the Toshiba Chromebook 2 is a very good Chromebook and at a very inexpensive price compared to other Chromebooks on the market.
